Early Afternoon

The day kicks off with a very light noon slate due to the blockbuster Florida State vs Virginia Tech matchup being canceled. Indiana, a bubble team currently rising in my bracketology, will look to avoid being pulled back down to earth as the Hoosiers host Michigan State.

At 1, UConn, another bubble team, has a shot to get a massive resume-building victory against Villanova, and an hour later, Texas Tech and Kansas will square off in a game between two teams fighting to get a coveted top-four seed in March Madness. Over on ESPN2, once-mighty Missouri will look to stop a three-game skid @ Tom Crean’s Georgia Bulldogs.

Late Afternoon

At 3, we are blessed with the rare ABC college basketball game, and it is a big one, as West Virginia and Texas will go to battle. The loser of that one will be essentially eliminated from the race to be the #2 seed in the upcoming Big 12 Tournament. At 3:30, Minnesota, a once ranked team now plummeting onto the bubble will look to pick up a big resume booster against Illinois. At 4, Florida State looks to stay in the ACC Title race against a tricky Pitt squad.

At 6, North Carolina hopes to rebound from a tough loss last Saturday as they face Louisville, and USC looks to continue their journey towards the Pac-12 crown facing Arizona. A half an hour earlier, bubble team Seton Hall travels to DC to play Georgetown in a must-not-lose game for their tournament chances.

Evening

In primetime, a Duke team that is on fire right now hopes to keep their slim NCAA Tournament chances alive as they face Virginia. Over on FS1, Colorado State looks to stay on the right side of the bubble @ Nevada, and on ESPN3, the top two teams in the Summit League face off, as it will be North Dakota State against South Dakota State.

Arizona State-UCLA and Oregon-Utah are the late-night #Pac12AfterDark clashes. Both UCLA and Oregon would be in the NCAA Tournament field for now, but both need to avoid taking on too many losses. Ohio State basketball is on fire right now. The Buckeyes are winners of five straight, four of the five coming in “Quadrant One” games. The five wins have been by an average of nine points, and the Buckeyes’ defense, long considered to be the team’s weakness, has looked up to task, including an impressive performance @ Wisconsin where the Buckeyes held the Badgers to just 62 points.

This recent hot streak has not gone unnoticed, and Ohio State officially earned themselves a spot on the coveted one line, displacing Villanova, which had held the 4th overall spot previously. Ohio State finds themselves with nine quadrant one victories, more than any team in the country, and seven more than Villanova. That is worth more than enough to outweigh the fact that OSU has two additional losses on their resume as opposed to the ‘Cats.

With four Q1 opportunities left on their schedule (@ Penn State, vs Michigan, vs Iowa, vs Illinois) plus the possibility of the Big Ten tournament, Ohio State has an opporuntity to climb even higher and displace Michigan, a team that has been stuck on a COVID pause, from the #3 overall seed.

That being said, the tough remaining schedule also means the Buckeyes have lots of potential to lose more games before the official bracket is revealed on March 14th, but for now, OSU controls their own destiny to a one seed.
