  • NFL RECAP WEEK 2

    NFL RECAP WEEK 2

    Steelers at Ravens

Some may have thought the Ray Rice situation would be a distraction for Baltimore against the rival Steelers, but in the end it served as inspiration. Joe Flacco threw two touchdown passes as the Ravens rolled the Steelers 26-6. Rice was one game away from his suspension being over when a video surfaced of him hitting his wife. The NFL immediately suspended him indefinitely and controversy has been swirling since.

“We had a tough family situation this week,” coach John Harbaugh said. “I thought our guys handled it tremendously — with class, with character. They responded.”

The Ravens, who were coming off a loss to the division-rival Bengals trounced the Steelers, forcing three turnovers.

“We was all about getting the win. We wanted to kind of give that to Ray,” rookie linebacker C.J. Mosley said. “We all wish the best for him. Even though he messed up, every man got to go through their mistakes to get better. We wish him the best, but as a team we’ve just got to keep moving forward.”

    Jaguars at Redskins

R-G-Knee? How about R-G-ankle. The mobile first round pick injured himself again on a non-contact play, dislocating his ankle and being ruled out indefinitely in the Redskins 41-10 demolishing win over the reeling Jaguars. Best-case-scenario back by Thanksgiving but most medical experts are saying out for the year. X-rays and MRI’s will tell ‘skins fans more but the possibility of a fractured ankle is too big for anyone to be optimistic.

“Moments like this,” Griffin said, “you just have to keep the faith.”

The good news for Redskins fan? Kirk Cousins looked better in Jay Gruden’s offense than Griffin ever has. Throwing for 250 yards and 2 touchdowns. DeSean Jackson also was injured in the win, but he will likely be back in two weeks at the latest. Ryan Kerrigan had 4 sacks as the Defense dominated. KC1 may be the starter for time to come.

    Patriots at Vikings

Matt Cassel threw four interceptions in Adrian Peterson’s absence as the Patriots destroyed Minnesota 30-7, giving Bill Belicheck his 200th win

“I certainly never got into coaching expecting that to ever happen,” Belichick said, “so it is very gratifying to reach that milestone. But what it really says is I had a lot of really good players.”

Tom Brady had 149 yards and a touchdown but Matt Cassel didn’t fareas well being sacked 6 times and being intercepted 4 times. “I take full responsibility for not taking care of the football today,” Cassel said. “I’ve got to do a better job, and I will.”

    Bears at 49ers

Jay Cutler was clutch, with 3 touchdowns in the final quarter and Kyle Fuller had 2 late picks as he Bears came back to spoil Levi Stadium’s opening game with a 28-20 win.

“The defense did a great job giving us short fields, causing turnovers and keeping it close enough so that we could get back in it,” Cutler said.

Brandon Marshall caught three touchdowns in what was a sloppy game, 26 penalties!

“We all still had confidence, we knew we were going to pull it out,” said Fuller, the Bears’ first-round pick.

And the Bears did coming back from down 17-0 to win.

    Eagles at Colts

Nick Foles, Lesean McCoy, and Darren Sproles destroyed the Colts in a comeback, 30-27 win over the Colts, Foles found Maclin to tie the game and on the next Drive the trio set up a game-winning field goal.

“He’s just a special player,” coach Chip Kelly said, `How many different ways can we find ways to get him the football?’ He’s just a dynamic football player.”

Foles was 21 of 37 for 331 yards with one touchdown — a 6-yard pass to Jeremy Maclin with 3:25 to go that tied it at 27. McCoy ran 20 times for 79 yards.

Andrew Luck threw touchdowns but threw a costly interception when TY Hilton was held back, no call was made.
