    NFL RECAP WEEK 7

    SEAHAWKS AT RAMS

It took a fake punt pass and a trick punt return but when the clock hit triple zero former free agent Austin Davis and the Rams beat the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks 28-26. “That’s pretty sweet,” Rams punter Hekker said of the pass to a wide-open Benny Cunningham that helped the Rams run out the clock and win on Sunday. “We’ve been practicing that play for a long time.” Hekker is a former high school quarterback. “It was great execution by them on a couple different scenarios,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll. “It made a huge difference in this game. If they don’t catch that ball, it’s ours and we kick the field goal and it’s over. A very gutsy play.”

    GIANTS AT COWBOYS

Tony Romo has officially taken a back seat to DeMarco Murray, Romo completed 17 passes, Murray ran the ball 28 times. “I love that kid,” Romo said after the Cowboys gained their sixth straight victory, in a 31-21 over the New York Giants on Sunday. “He really exemplifies everything you want in a player. He’s hard-working. He’s humble. He’s a team-first guy. He’s talented. He’s explosive.” Murray is now the first runningback to start the season with 7 straight 100-yard games. “I think our record is above what we could have expected, but we have it and it’s a credit to a team that’s building in their confidence,” owner Jerry Jones said. “That wasn’t the same team that went to Seattle, that came home from Seattle, and I know this team, the Giants, had a lot to say, a lot to prove today.”

    49ERS AT BRONCOS

Records are meant to be broken. Peyton Manning threw his 507th, 508th, 509th, and 510th career touchdowns to break Brett Farves 508 TD record. “It’s special because of the way our team played,” said Manning, who got the record with an 8-yard strike to Demaryius Thomas late in the second quarter in a 42-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers. After the touchdown Thomas tossed it over Manning to Sanders who tossed it to Welker, back to Sanders and then to Thomas who finally gave the ball to Manning. “Those guys are all great athletes and my vertical leap isn’t what it used to be. I haven’t played keep-away since I was 8 years old,” Manning said. “That is something I will always remember.”

    TEXANS AT STEELERS

Ben Roethlisberger passed for two touchdowns and Antonio Brown added 1 more on a trick play during the span of 73-seconds that moved the Steelers from down 10 to an 11-point lead. “You stand on the sidelines long enough, you will see explosions such as that,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. “It was good to be on the good side of it.””We had a terrible second quarter,” Houston coach Bill O’Brien said. “We couldn’t come back from it. Just too many turnovers. We just had a hard time overcoming all those things.”

    COLTS AT TEXANS

The Colts nearly blew a 24-0 lead against the Texans on Thursday Night Football. “You’re going up and down on the sideline screaming at everybody: ‘Don’t take your foot off the gas,’” Pagano said. “Next thing you know, just like that (it’s close). It’s never over in this league.” JJ Watt had a scoop and score but in the end the comeback fell short and the Colts won 33-28. Andrew Luck threw for 370 yards, 223 of them and a touchdown to TY Hilton.”We realized with the recent history of Thursday night games, teams who are going on the road are struggling, and we didn’t want to do that,” Luck said. “We were lucky enough to get off on that fast start. It takes focus, and you almost have to trick yourself into it.”

    RAVENS AT BUCCANEERS

Joe Flacco threw for 5 touchdowns in the first 16 minutes to give the Ravens a 35-0 lead before the 2nd quarter even got going. “You’re going to find out this is a very good football team,” coach John Harbaugh said Sunday “And to play the way we did in a game that’s kind of a business game, a game we need to win to do the things we want to do, it speaks a lot to who we are as a football team.” The early 35-0 lead set the tone for a 48-17 rout of the struggling Buccaneers. “It was very enjoyable. You don’t get those too often in this league. … It was pretty crazy,” Flacco said. “It happened so quickly. It was such an awkward situation, but it was definitely fun for us.”

    BRONCOS AT JETS

Peyton Manning tossed for three touchdowns as the Broncos routed the Jets 31-17.  Manning is now only two touchdowns short of Brett Farve’s all tine record for Passing touchdowns in a career. “Any time you win on the road in the NFL,” Manning said, “it’s a good thing.” Manning, who faces the 49ers next week has thrown for 506 scores in his career. “I don’t know if any of them are big for me, especially in the middle of the season,” Manning said of the importance of the record. “We’re playing a tough schedule, got the 49ers at home and they’ve been one of the dominant teams of the past couple years. That’s all I am thinking about.” The Jets played it closer than the score indicated and actually led Denver 7-3 at the end of the 4th quarter before the Broncos pulled away.

    PACKERS AT DOLPHINS

Down 4 with 3 seconds left Aaron Rodgers had one chance to give his team the win over the upset minded dolphins, the Pro Bowl quarterback dropped back, looked to his right and threw a beautiful pass, right on the money to Andrew Quarless to give Green Bay a 27-24 win. “We knew this was going to be a tough game coming down here in the heat,” coach Mike McCarthy said. “We said we weren’t worried about it all week, and we weren’t worried. But the fact of the matter is, we are from Wisconsin. So we fought through it.” Rodgers had 264 yards and 3 touchdowns in his 100th regular season game. “You want the opportunity to make a play there at the end,” Rodgers said.

    COWBOYS AT SEAHAWKS

Down 10-0 at the defending champion Seahawks Tony Romo and company needed to get something going, and they did. Tony Romo threw for 250 yards and touchdowns while MVP candidate DeMarco Murray ran for a 115 yards and another score. “I think our team now understands that we do a lot of things pretty well, and I think we have the ability to kind of impose yourself on other teams,” Romo said. The Cowboys scored 17 unanswered points to take a 17-10 lead and carried that lea to a 30-23 final win. “I think that showed the maturity of this team. “I think that showed the maturity of this team. We expected to win,” Dallas tight end Jason Witten said. “We knew this was going to be a challenge, and we stayed the course.”

    49ERS AT RAMS

Austin Davis, yes Austin Davis had the Rams up 14-0 early but St. Louis and the undrafted quarterback could not hold on, falling 31-17 to the San Francisco 49ers.”No disrespect, but I didn’t know who their quarterback was,” linebacker Ahmad Brooks said. “We got some good pressure on him. That helped us.”  Davis threw for 236 yards for a score.  “We’ve had the ball in every game with a chance to either win or tie,” Davis said. “That’s where hopefully my experience will help, the more opportunities I get. You’ve got to be able to go win games at the end.”

NOTE: I’ve actually met Davis, who was undrafted out of Southern Miss, when covering the Hawaii Bowl during the 2011 season ( The Golden Eagles won 24-17) So any Rams fans that want an autographed football… i’m your guy.

    FALCONS AT GIANTS

Odell Beckham Jr. had 44 yards and the go-ahead touchdown in his NFL debut as the Giants beat the Falcons 30-20 on Sunday. “To be out this long and to have to deal with the adversity I have had, I just I have to thank God for giving me the opportunity to play and for allowing me to score in my first game,” Beckham said after scoring. “It’s just great to get that off your chest.” Fellow rookie Andre Williams, a runningback out of Boston College also scored a touchdown and ran 65 yards for the G-Men as they improved to 3-2 on the young season.

    TEXANS AT COWBOYS

Dez Bryant came up big, well big doesn’t describe it, Bryant came up HUGE against the Houston Texans in overtime making an incredible catch over his defender to set up Dan Bailey’s game winning field goal from 49 yards out. Bryant had 9 catches for eighty-five yards and a touchdown as the Cowboys blew a 10-point lead but still managed to win. “We had to go down and basically win the game twice,” said Tony Romo who threw for 324 yards with 2 touchdowns and a interception. “You just put your work hat on and go out and execute.”

    CARDINALS AT BRONCOS

Peyton Manning and the Broncos handed the Cardinals their first loss of the season on Sunday in a 41-20 drubbing of Arizona. Manning threw for 479 yards and 4 touchdowns, the first of which was his 500th in his career the only other quarterback to have over 500 touchdown passes? The legendary Brett Farve.  The milestone win was slightly overshadowed by a dirty chop block from Julius Thomas. “I’ve been coaching for 37 years, it’s the dirtiest play I’ve seen,” Arians fumed. “It was a flat chop block and put him out of the game. I know John Fox, great coach and great guy. Somebody has got to answer to that. A fine isn’t going to do it, when he’s going to miss three or four weeks, on a blatant chop block.”

     BENGALS AT PATRIOTS

Just six days after being obliterated by the Chiefs 41-14, Tom Brady and the Patriots silenced the doubters with a dominating win of their own in primetime over the last remaining undefeated. A 43-17 win over a Bengals team that many thought was the best team in the league. “It’s hard to be oblivious to things. We all have TVs or the internet or the questions I get and the emails that I get from people,” Brady said after throwing for two touchdowns and no interceptions  and breaking the 5,000 yard mark for his career. “Nobody died or anything. It’s just a loss, and I think we’ve always done a great job putting losses behind us quickly.”

    SEAHAWKS AT REDSKINS

In 2012 the Seahawks and the Redskins had a battle in a matchup with two exciting young quarterbacks. Their paths have changed since, the Seahawks are Super Bowl Champions, and the Redskins got embarrassed in primetime for the second straight week in a 27-17 Seattle win in a game that was not as close as the score indicates.

    NFL RECAP WEEK 4

    Packers at Bears

Before Sunday’s game Aaron Rodgers told Packers fans to relax, and if they don’t relax after this one then I don’t know what it will take. Green Bay demolished the rival Bears 38-17 as Rodgers threw for 302 yards and 4 touchdowns giving the Packers their 700th win in franchise history. It was a very exciting game with so many scores and turnovers that neither punted the whole game, that is only the 2nd time that has happened…EVER. “Interesting,” Jordy Nelson said. “Obviously, turnovers were a big thing. It’s fun, especially when you’re putting up points and having a good time.” The Bears matched the Pack score for score the whole game until Jay Cutler threw interceptions on back-to-back drives.

    Saints at Cowboys

Tony Romo bounced back from throwing four picks vs the 49ers to throw for 262 yards and 3 touchdowns and DeMarco Murray added a buck-forty-nine and two scores to carry Dallas to a 38-17 victory over the New Orleans Saints. At the end of the third quarter Romo scrambled and slid for a first down even after going through back surgery. “It makes me feel old and the fact that I haven’t gotten more than 21 yards is pretty pathetic,” said Romo, whose previous long run was 17 yards”But other than that, it feels pretty great.” The Saints got within 14 but punter Thomas Morestead failed to convert on a fake punt, letting Dallas kneel out the clock, improving to 3-1.

    Patriots at Chiefs

Jamaal Charles came back from an ankle injury on Monday night to gash the Patriots defense for almost 100 yards and a touchdown rushing as well as as the Chiefs whipped New England 41-14.  “Coach said he was going to look for me, and see how it feels during the game,” Charles, a pro bowl running back said, “and I guess I started feeling like myself. He didn’t want to take me out.” Tom Brady threw two interceptions for the Patriots and was strip-sacked in the loss. The game was so out of hand even backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo came in for a few snaps, including a touchdown pass late in the fourth.

    BUCCANEERS AT FALCONS

Devin Hester broke the record for kick return touchdowns, Matt Ryan was near perfect and Julio Jones made a ton of crazy catches. The result?  A 56-14 trouncing of the Buccaneers which was 56-0 at one point. ” It was a fun night,” Ryan said. Hester ran back his 20th career kick return breaking Deion Sanders’ record, Hester high stepped the last 10 yards as a tribute to his mentor. “It’s tough to break the record of the guy who is my No. 1 mentor,” Hester said. “I’m kind of emotional right now.”

    COWBOYS AT RAMS

The Cowboys came back from down 21-0 to stun the St. Louis Rams 34-31 after Dez Bryant caught a wide open 64 yard pass to secure the victory for Dallas”No one ever comes that wide open,” quarterback Tony Romo said “You want to make sure you don’t do anything stupid.” Bruce Carter was a beast on the defensive end as he picked off a pass and returned it all the way. DeMarco Murray had over 100 yards in the comeback as well but the real star was Tony Romo. “Tony went out there and did what Tony do,” Dez Bryant said. “He was poised and he knew what he wanted to do.”

    BRONCOS AT SEAHAWKS

Peyton Manning lead an incredible last minute drive and got the two-point conversion to send it to overtime only for Russell Wilson to engineer a drive of his own in the extra time period. “I can’t wait for those moments, those big-time moments and have guys to continue to believe in what we do,” Wilson said. “That was a great experience tonight.” The game was what the Super Bowl should have  been.
