GIANTS TAKE GAME 1, ROYALS GAME 2 OF WORLD SERIES

    Game 1

The Giants had three runs in the top of the first inning and pitcher Madison Bumgarner pitched a shutout into the 7th inning as the Giants rolled over the Royals 7-1, snapping Kansas City’s 29-year streak of never losing a playoff game. “They’ve obviously been on a great run. You don’t get here without that,” Bumgarner said. “I think our team is concentrating on what they need to do, not what the Royals are doing.” The Giants, who could win their third title in five years with a win this series came out looking great. “I can’t say I’m surprised by these guys,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. On the other hand the Royals looked nothing like the underdog story the baseball world has grown so fond of. Bumgarner moved to 3-0 in World Series’ and increased his shutout streak to 21 innings. “I would tell you I wasn’t thinking about it, but you know,” Bumgarner said. “There’s no way around it. You know. There’s so much talk about it. Obviously, a World Series game is not something you tend to forget.”

    Game 2

Salvador Perez yelled at Hunter Strickland, Strickland yelled right back and then the benches emptied. Chaos ruled Wednesday night as the Royals tied the series up at 1 game a piece with a 7-2 win over the San Francisco Giants. “We showed them that we have fight in us, and I think they knew that already,” said Billy Butler, whose RBI single in the sixth inning gave the Royals a 3-2 lead. “But we stepped up big there as a team, and that gave us some confidence.”

  • TRAVIS ISHIKAWA WALKS OFF TO SEND GIANTS TO WORLD SERIES

TRAVIS ISHIKAWA WALKS OFF TO SEND GIANTS TO WORLD SERIES

Travis Ishikawa just took a swing and hoped for the best,  tied 3-3 in the bottom of the 9th, best case scenario, he hits a 3-run walkoff homerun and becomes the hero, worst case, he grounds out and we go to extras. And it flew… “It’s gratifying,” Ishikawa said. “If there’s an organization I’d want to do it for, it would be this one.” Ishikawa started the season off in Pittsburgh, and ended it sending the Giants to the World Series. “These guys have been through it,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. “They have been battle-tested and they know how to handle themselves on this type of stage, and then add to that the kids that we brought up, and then Ishikawa.””I mean, what a great story,” Bochy said.”He signed a minor league contract, he more or less picked us,” general manager Brian Sabean said. “I’m not surprised he hit a home run, I’m not. I’m surprised he’s our starting left fielder. That’s amazing to me. That’s the kind of commitment he had to wanting to get on the field.”

  • GIANTS WALK OFF ON THROWING ERROR; ROYALS INTO WORLD SERIES

GIANTS WALK OFF ON THROWING ERROR; ROYALS INTO WORLD SERIES

A wild throw by reliever Randy Choate on a Gregor Blanco’s bunt allowed Brandon Crawford torun home, securing the winning run in the bottom of the 10th, giving the San Francisco Giantsa 5-4 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday for a 2-1 lead in the NL Championship Series.”We don’t do anything easy,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. “We might have got a little lucky there with Perez when he couldn’t get a bunt down and he gets a base hit. But Blanco laid down a beauty. … I don’t know if that’s luck as much as great bunt, great speed to put pressure on them.” Crawford walked, then Juan Perez singled, bringing Crawford to third. Blanco’s first bunt attempt went foul the second went right to pitcher Randy Choate whose wild sidearm throw flew over Kolten Wong’s head, giving the Giants not only the win but also the lead in the best-of-seven series.

After spending nearly three decades as the laughingstock of the league, the Kansas City Royals advanced to the World Series on Wednesday after SWEEPING the Orioles. The Royals, who haven’t lost a game yet this postseason were golden. “It’s hard to explain,” said Cain, whose clutch hits and dramatic catches earned him the series MVP award. “We’re clicking at the right moment right now.” I don’t think anybody can argue with that. The Royals have won 11 straight in the postseason, one short of the MLB record. The Royals will face either the Giants or the Cardinals in the Series. The funny thing is, the only time Kansas City won the Series, it was over St. Louis. “It’s been an amazing run,” Royals outfielder Alex Gordon said. “It’s nothing better than when you win. Today, same old story: good pitching, good defense and scratch out a win.” The Royals played solid,  good pitching, good defense just not enough offense.

  • CARDS TIE UP NLCS WITH WALKOFF WIN

CARDS TIE UP NLCS WITH WALKOFF WIN

Down 1-0 in the series already the Cardinals couldn’t let another one slip away at home. Up 4-3 heading into the 9th it looked like we would be deadlocked when the series traveled to San Diego, not so fast my friend. After a wild pitch from Trevor Rosenthal the Giants stole home and got it, tying the game at 4-4. In a game where star player Yadier Molina was injured the Cards were able to pull through as Kolten Wong hit a walk-off solo shot to right to seal the deal. About Molina’s injury?

Mike Matheny said it “didn’t look real good.” and added  “We’ll wait and see and right now we’ll just go ahead and keep celebrating a very tough, hard-fought win. I am real proud at how these guys kept coming,”.

Game 3 of the best of 7 series is Tuesday

  • CARDS ADVANCE TO NLDS

    CARDS ADVANCE TO NLDS

Matt Adams homered off of Clayton Kershaw to advance the Cardinals into the National League Divisional Series. “I don’t think I touched the ground the whole way around the bases,” Adams said. “Definitely the highlight of my career. … I will never, ever forget this.” Adams hit a three run, go ahead homer as the Cardinals beat the Dodgers 3-2 on Tuesday. The loss eliminated Los Angeles. “The season ended and I was a big part of the reason why,” Kershaw said. “I can’t really put it into words, Just bad deja vu all over again.”

ROYALS WIN IN EXTRAS AGAIN; GIANTS GO 16 INNINGS

When Mike Moustakas hit a normal pitch in the 11th he had no idea how hard he had hit it. The ball had just enough juice to float over the fence giving the Royals a 1-0 lead over the Angels as Kansas City won 3-2 in 11 innings.”I knew I hit it pretty good, but that fence out there is pretty tall,” the Los Angeles born Moustakas said. “It’s probably the biggest one I’ve ever hit so far,” said Moustakas “It felt really amazing.”. Game 2 of the best-of-5 series is Friday

In a game that was twice as long as a normal baseball game the Giants outlasted the Nationals 2-1 in 18 innings after Brandon Belt belted a solo shot to win the game “That’s how we do it. On paper, it might not be the flashiest thing, compared to a lot of teams. But I like this group against anybody in baseball,” said Tim Hudson,  “Who’d have thought we’d have came here and won the first two? Everybody in America probably didn’t think we had a shot. But everybody in this locker room knew that we did.” It was the longest game in postseason history totaling 6 hours and 23 minutes. The Giants lead the series 2-0.

  • ROYALS PICK UP FIRST PLAYOFF WIN IN ALMOST 3 DECADES; GIANTS CRUISE

ROYALS PICK UP FIRST PLAYOFF WIN IN ALMOST 3 DECADES; GIANTS CRUISE

It had been 29 years since the last time the Royals were in a playoff game, so this one was extra special. Salvador Perez hit a walkoff single in the bottom of the 12th to give Kansas City baseball joy for the fist time in nearly three decades. Down 7-3 in the bottom of the of the 8th the Royals answered, scoring 4 unanswered runs to send it to extras. The Athletics, a sleeper for the World Series went up 8-7 in the top of the 12th after Callaspo batted in Reddick. The Royals once again answered the call with two runs in the bottom of the frame to win 9-8. The Royals will face the Angels on the 2nd.

The other wildcard game  wasn’t as much of a thriller as the Giants blew out the Pirates 8-0 in a game highlighted by a grand slam from Brandon Crawford in the 4th. “We thrive in these situations,” Crawford said. “I don’t know what it is. We just keep fighting no matter what the circumstance.” The Giants won their seventh straight elimination game, a streak that dates back to 2012. “We’ve been through it before, a lot of this team has,” Brandon Belt said. “We used that experience tonight. We know when we get in these situations we’re going to have a good ballclub.”

  • JETER HITS WALKOFF IN FINAL HOME GAME

JETER HITS WALKOFF IN FINAL HOME GAME

You would say it was scripted; In his final game in the Bronx Derek Jeter hit a game-winning, walk-off single in his final game at Shortstop “It was above and beyond anything that I’ve ever dreamt of,” Jeter said. “This was a lot of fun.”. Jeter will probably DH at some point this weekend vs the Red Sox. The 6-5 win over the Orioles couldn’t have been more perfect, up 5-2 the Yankees let up a 2-run home run and a solo shot to tie the game. “It’s like a movie,” teammate Chase Headley said. “You look up there and you see who’s hitting third and you’re like, really? This can’t happen, can it? You’re surprised but you’re not surprised.”
