PADRES SELECT JOHNNY MANZIEL 837TH OVERALL

    Johnny Baseball? You never know.

In the 28th round of the MLB draft the Padres selected Johnny Manziel 837th overall. Manziel was drafted by the Browns in the 1st round, 22nd overall to the Browns in the NFL draft. Manziel was a shortstop for his high school, Tivy High. Although Manziel will probably never wear a Padres uniform I enjoyed the pick.

Another notable pick was when the Yankees took Mariano Rivera’s son, Mariano Rivera III a RHP out of Iona with the 872nd pick.

A’S RALLY PAST YANKEES IN EXTRAS

    Athletics (35-22) at Yankees (29-27)

A homer by Brandon Moss, an RBI double from Jed  Lowrie and an RBI single by Kyle Banks highlighted a 3 run 10th inning for the A’s that ultimately gave them the win. “The way the guys were swinging in the 10th inning, it was like they could smell the victory and found a way to get it done,” Sean Doolittle said. “That’s typical Oakland A’s baseball.”

Doolittle got his 6th save of the year, Dan Otero got the win for Oakland, improving to 5-1 and Adam Warren had the loss, dropping to 1-3.

    JOSE ABREU HOMERS IN RETURN

White Sox 29-29 at Dodgers 30-28

Clayton Kershaw’s first home win of the season was a perfect example of the former NL Cy Young doing what he does best, coming back from an early blunder to dominate. The Dodgers ace pitched 8 innings allowing 4 hits, 2 runs (both earned), walking none and striking out 9.”It was one pitch. That’s all it was tonight. One pitch. But he was great all the way to his last one,” Dodgers catcher Drew Butera said.

The one pitch was a homerun by Jose Abreu who had just returned from ankle tendinitis which had sidelined him since May 18.

  • BECKETT THROWS FIRST NO-NO OF THE YEAR

BECKETT THROWS FIRST NO-NO OF THE YEAR

Josh Beckett threw the first no-no of is career today against a very good Phillies lineup. Beckett threw 128 pitches, walked 3 and struck out six in the 6-0 win. Beckett rang up Chase Utley on a called strike 3 to end the game and secure the no-hitter. Beckett mixed his fast ball with a dirty curve that kept batters guessing. “It was awesome. You think about it pretty much from the fourth on. I’m not one of those guys that carried a lot of no-hitters deep into games,” he said. Last July, Beckett had a rib removed in thoracic outlet syndrome surgery. On the other side of the mound Phillies right-hander AJ Burnett gave up 6 runs, 4 of which were earned, and 11 Hits in 7 innings. Adrian Gonzalez hit an RBI double with two outs to make it 1-0. Justin Turner led off the 2nd with a homer and Erisbel Arruebarrena drove in a run in the sixth with an RBI single to put the lead at 3-0. The Dodgers added three more in the seventh.

DID YOU KNOW? This is the First no-hitter of the year.

  • PINEDA SUSPENDED 10 GAMES

    PINEDA SUSPENDED 10 GAMES

Just as everyone thought would happen Micheal Pineda has been suspended for 10 games for violating MLB rule 8.02 (4) which states in exactly these words: The Pitcher shall not apply a foreign substance to the ball of any kind. Pineda will not appeal the suspension. Pineda was tossed from the game in the 2nd second inning when Red Sox manager John Ferrell noticed a smear of something on Pineda’s neck. Pineda later admitted that the substance was Pine Tar.

  • RIP HURRICANE CARTER, MIKE WOODSON FIRED, JULIUS RANDLE TO NBA, AND PUJOLS’ 500TH HOMER

    RIP ROBIN “HURRICANE” CARTER

Carter was a American Middleweight boxer who was wrongfully convicted of a triple-homicide and spent nearly 20 years in jail for a crime he didn’t commit. Carter died from Prostate Cancer.

    MIKE WOODSON FIRED

Probably the first good move that the Knicks have made in the past 5 years! But, yeah not much else to say other than that, he was fired. In my opinion it was a great move.

    JULIUS RANDLE TO NBA!

Julius Randle has declared for the NBA Draft. I think he’s a lottery guy so, good for him.

    PUJOLS’ 500TH HOMER!

Albert Pujols has joined the 500 home run club, he is the 26th player to do so.

  • O’S TOP SOX

    O’S TOP SOX

The Red Sox made a furious comeback to the O’s yesterday on the 1-year anniversary of the Boston Bombing and they almost completed it. “Our guys battled and fought and did a good job of making a game of it and it came down to the last pitch,” David Ross said. “We did a good job of representing Red Sox baseball today. We just want to win, obviously, for the fans and the whole situation.”  The Sox were down 6-0 at one point. But after a 3 run 5th inning and a homerun by David Ross cut the lead to 2. But a Ryan Flaherty RBI single to 2nd gave the O’s a comfortable 3 run lead and the O’s would go on to win 7-6.

  • BRAVES ONE-HIT METS

    BRAVES ONE-HIT METS

Braves pitcher Aaron Harang had a no-hitter through 7 innings of play, then his manager pulled him. The main reason was to conserve  his arm, Harang had already racked up his pitch count to 121. “It gets to the point you chase that no-hitter, chase that dragon, you’re up to 140 pitches,” Said Braves skipper Fredi Gonzalez after the game “I think we made the right decision.” Braves closer Luis Avilan let up a single in the 8th to kill the team no-hitter. Even without the no-hitter, the Atlanta pitching staff looked amazing tonight, especially Harang who leads the NL in ERA. And the bats weren’t cold either, The Braves scored six runs, plus the exclamation point with a Freddie Freeman two-run shot to right field. Righty Ervin Santana (1-0) will start for the Braves while Bartolo Colon (1-1) will pitch for New York tomorrow, 7:10 on Fox Sports South or WPIX.

  • 3 BURNING QUESTION FOR MARINERS-RANGERS

    3 BURNING QUESTION FOR MARINERS-RANGERS

    1. Who’s a better Ace: Yu Darvish or Felix Hernandez?

    We’ll look at numbers first:

    Yu Darvish 30-18 (.628), 3.22 ERA, 1.154 WHIP, SO/BB:3
    Felix Hernandez 113-86 (.568), 3.18 ERA, 1.198 WHIP, SO/BB: 3.28

So to say the least this is extremely evenly matched but i’m going to say Yu Darvish because to me the best formula for determining who is a better pitcher is you take their opponent’s average (1B+2*2B+3*3B+4*4B)/AB. That is better known as slugging percentage. So I did the numbers and Darvish’s is .335 and Hernanadez’s is .355 so Darvish’s better by a pretty big margin.

    2. Best non-pitcher?

You’ve got to give it to Robinson Cano. He is such a power hitter, he has a .503 slugging percentage and has hit 204 HR’s in his career.

    3. Who will win?

RANGERS! 2-1 Yu Darvish is just such a beast!
