STEWART SKIPS RACE AFTER KILLING DRIVER

Tony Stewart opted not to race Sunday after he hit and killed sprint car driver Kevin Ward Jr. who climbed out of his car and was on the track trying to confront Stewart in a race in upstate New York Saturday night. Regan Smith will race in place of Stewart. Sheriff Philip Povero said Sunday afternoon that there are no charges at this time. However he is being investigated. A video of the incident shows Ward walking up to Stewart, the car hitting Ward, and Ward flying 50 feet. “People that witnessed it were horrified,” Povero said of the crash. “They were extremely shocked.” My thoughts and prayers go out to the Ward family.

    EARNHARDT JR. WINS POCONO 400

Dale Earnhardt Jr. got his first career victory at Pocono yesterday adding to perhaps his best season since 2004. “I feel like I’m such a lucky guy to have this second opportunity again to be competitive,” Earnhardt said.

Earnhardt beat out  Brad Keslowski whose engine overheated as the  race wore on. “It was definitely a mistake because the engine made it,” Keselowski said, rubbing his face. “It probably shouldn’t have.”

Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson rounded out the top five.

  • JAMIE MCMURRAY WINS 2014 NASCAR SPRINT ALL-STAR RACE

JAMIE MCMURRAY WINS 2014 NASCAR SPRINT ALL-STAR RACE

If you told anyone Jamie McMurray was going to walk away today the winner of the 2014 NASCAR SPRINT ALL-STAR RACE I would say your crazy. McMurray’s odds were 40-1. One of the biggest long shots in the 22 man field. But lo and behold he held off Carl Edwards at the end to win $1,000,000. “As a kid, that is what you grew up wanting to do, is have a shootout like that and have a possibility to race for 10 laps,” McMurray said. “He got a little bit of a jump on me on the restart and I was able to hang on to his quarter panel, and when we kept entering Turn 1 and 3, I was like, `It is for a million bucks. If we wreck, it’s not that big of a deal. It’s so cool to come out on top.”

“Jamie just did a perfect job on the start. I had him cleared for a minute,” Carl Edwards said. “If I would have pulled in front of him in Turn 1, if I would have gone high, I think we would have won that race. But I was just so reluctant to give up the bottom. It was a drag race. My hat is off to him. He earned it.” Kevin Harvick finished second, Matt Kenseth was third and Dale Earnhardt Jr. was fourth.
