THE CSD COLLEGE BASKETBALL TOP 25 – WEEK FOURTEEN

Rank  Team Notes
 1 Gonzaga (24-0)

No Change

Pretty easy week for the Zags, but with the
big game against St. Mary’s upcoming on Saturday,
the Zags will have to fight to keep this spot.

 2 Villanova (22-2)

Up 1
It feels like Nova has been in the top five the whole
year, and deservedly so, the defending champs look
likely to get the #1 overall seed.

 3  Kansas (20-3)

Up 1
Kansas has lost two of their last four, but despite that,
the Jayhawks stay in the top three, because in
today’s college basketball, parity is so real that everyone
is losing.

 4 Louisville (19-4)

Up 2
Because everyone else is losing, the Cards move into the
top four, but they have a road test vs Virginia tonight,
a team they’ve lost to three times in a row

 5 Wisconsin (20-3) Up 4

The Badgers sit alone atop the Big Ten standings with
a seven game winning streak for the Badgers, and
that earns them a top-5 ranking.

 6 Baylor (20-3)

Down 4

The Bears have lost two in a row, and with a road game
against Kenpom #20 Oklahoma State upcoming, that
could become three

 7 Oregon (21-3) Up 6

In last Monday’s top 25 I had Arizona ranked #7, after
clubbing the Wildcats by nearly thirty points, the Ducks
take their spots.

 8 Virginia (17-5)

No Change

Just like in last year’s elite eight, the Cavaliers blew a big
halftime lead to Syracuse, but with a chance to beat Kenpom #2
Louisville on Monday, the Wahoos can redeem themselves

 9 North Carolina (21-4) Up 2

After Saturday’s game against Notre Dame got moved to Sunday
in Greensboro, I was a little worried about how the ‘Heels would
fare in the unexpected environment, but they crushed it.

 10 Arizona (21-3)

Down 3

I wasn’t as high on Arizona as the polls were to begin with, but
the road, head-to-head victory over UCLA keeps the ‘Cats inside
of the top ten.

 11 UCLA (21-3)

Up 1

UCLA beat up on the terrible Washington teams this past week,
but they will have a chance to get back into the top ten with a home
game against Oregon on Thursday.

 12 Cincinnati (21-2)

Up 3

The Bearcats will soon have not lost in over two months (last loss was
on December the 10th) but Kenpom projects them to lose to my #26
SMU on Sunday.

 13 West Virginia (18-5)

Down 8

Between week 11 and 12 West Virginia dropped 11 spots, then, between
week 12 and 13 the Mountaineers went up 12 spots, and now they drop
eight more. The award for most confusing resume goes to…

 14 Kentucky (18-5)

Down 4

The Wildcats haven’t been leading a game at the end of regulation
since January 21st, two weeks, and two days ago, however, other then
a home game against Florida on the 25th, the Wildcats should cruise
through the rest of the regular season.

 15 Purdue (19-5) Up 3

A road win over Maryland means Purdue will control their own
destiny to the number two seed in the Big Ten tournament.

 16 Florida State (20-4)

Up 4

The ‘Noles lit up Clemson on Sunday, 109-61, rebounding well after
losing games to Georgia Tech and Syracuse, the ‘Noles have Notre
Dame on the road this week, so a win would send them into the Top 15

 17 Duke (18-5)

Down 1

Pittsburgh has won just one conference game this year, and that was a
home game, that needed overtime, while Pitt was shooting like 60%
from three. Despite that, Pitt gave Duke a scare in Cameron, which
drops the Dukies one spot.

 18 Florida (18-5)

Up 3

I picked Florida to beat Kentucky, but to see them do it still really
impressed me. With road games against Vandy, Georgia, and
Kentucky still upcoming it will tough, but the Gators control their
own destiny to an SEC Title.

 19 South Carolina (19-4)

Down 2

The Gamecocks just barely escaped at home against Georgia
on Saturday, but they won nonetheless, which keeps them in the top
twenty.

 20 Saint Mary’s (21-2) Down 1

Pacific came really close to stunning the Gaels this past Thursday, but
Saint Mary’s escaped with a four point win. All will be forgotten if
they can beat #1 Gonzaga on Saturday

 21 Butler (18-5)

Down 7

The Bulldogs tumble out of the top fifteen after back to back losses
to Georgetown and Creighton, and with back-to-back road games
coming up, that streak might continue.

 22 Maryland (20-3) No Change

Maryland still has no wins versus top-25 teams, but they stay ranked
due to only having three losses, as well as 5 Kenpom top-50 wins.

 23 Xavier (17-6)

Up 2

A road win over Creighton moves Xavier up a couple of spots in this
weeks top-25.

 24 Notre Dame (17-7)

Down 1

Notre Dame has lost four straight and five of their past six, but the
Fighting Irish are favored in their next six games.

 25 Creighton (20-4) NEW

A road win over Butler lets Creighton take back their spot in the top
25. With games against DePaul and Seton Hall upcoming, they should
keep it going.

NEXT THREE UP: #26 SMU, #27 Wichita State, #28 Iowa State

Dropped Out From Last Week: Then-#25 SMU
