Uruguay star Luis Suarez could only sit on the bench and look on as Los Charrúas was upset by Costa Rica 3-1. Suarez, who is still recovering from keyhole surgery will probably not be available for Uruguay’s clash against England on Thursday. The game started out looking great for Uruguay as the sky blue got on the board first with an Edison Cavani PK goal at 24′. But things then started to unravel for Uruguay and two Costa Rica goals within 3 minutes of each other blew the game–and Group D wide open.Marco Urena tacked on an insurance goal for Los Ticos and secure the 3 points.

COLOMBIA DESTROYS GREECE
Even without star striker Radamel Falcao Colombia cruised to a 3-0 shutout of Greece to get 3 points in the table and become the early leaders of Group C. Pablo Armero got things started off for Los Cafeteros with a goal that was deflected in to get Colombia on the board first. Then a short strike by Teofilo Gutierrez (who was playing in absence of Falcao) at 58′ extended the lead to 2-nil. The third and final goal of the game came in stoppage time where James Rodreguez got the shot to the left of the keeper that scored.

CHILE HOLDS OFF AUSSIE COMEBACK
After two goals in the first 14′ for Chile, one by Alexis Sanchez and another by Jorge Valdivia it looked like we could be in for a rout… but the Socceroos showed fightback with a Tim Hill goal and came close to equalising it until Jean Beausejour secured the 3 points for Chile with a stoppage time goal to make it a 3-1 win.”Early on, we were probably just overawed by the whole thing,” Australia coach Ange Postecoglou said. “In the end, we gave away a two-goal start and that’s what killed us.”
With Spain at 0 points it opens the door for Chile to start dreaming about advancing to the Round of 16 over the defending champs.

ORIBE PERALTA SCORES WINNER FOR MEXICO
El Tri got their world cup campaign off to a good start with a 1-0 win over Cameroon. The goal was on a rebound shot by Oribe Peralta after Giovani dos Santos first attempt was blocked by Cameroon keeper Charles Itandje but Mexico should have had control of the game by then after two obvious goals were called off because of offsides. “We could have scored more, but unfortunately we’re not used to these conditions,” Mexico coach Miguel Herrera said. “Frankly, the refereeing took away two clear goals, but at the end of the day you’ve got to work for it, and we get to the next match with three points and very high spirits.”
Mexico joins host Brazil with 3 points in Group A.

BRAZIL CRUISES BY CROATIA IN WORLD CUP OPENER
The road to the finals started for Brazil in Sao Paulo on Thursday with a 3-1 victory over Croatia. Led by Neymar who had 2 goals, one of which on a PK after a questionable yellow card on Croatia’s Dejan Lovren. “It’s important to start these tournaments with the right foot, with a victory,” Neymar said. “I’m happy that I got to score, but the entire team deserves credit. We maintained our calm and showed we could battle back.”
The game started out looking like Brazil could be the first host city to ever lose an opener when goalie Marcelo had an own goal but Neymar hit a long equalizer at 29′ then hit the PK, and Oscar hit a goal in stoppage time of the 2nd half to close out the game at 3-1 and secure Brazil 3 points in the table. “I stayed calm because if I let myself get down I would have hurt the team,” Marcelo said of the OG. “It’s not the first time that this has happened, so you have to stay relaxed to help the team.”

Q&A WHO SHOULD THE CAVS PICK #1? WHAT DO YOU THINK OFF MARK CUBAN’S COMMENT? LANDON DONOVAN US WORLD CUP
Q: Who should the Cavs pick #1?
A: I would take Embiid here but coming off a severe back injury that’s too risky, play it safe, pick Wiggins. Wiggins is arguably the best talent in the draft and while he needs a little more development he can develop into a super star.
Q: What do I think of Mark Cuban’s comments?
A: Saying that a “black kid in a hoodie” is just as frightening as a “white kid that is bald with tatoos all over his face” is a very inappropriate thing for an NBA owner to say and he should be punished in some way.
Q: Landon Donovan left off US WC team, thoughts?

The USMNT final world cup 23-man roster. Notice the lack of Landon Donovan. Donovan has been the face of the roster for the past 10 years and has been on the past 3 world cup rosters but it was the right move, he’s not what he used to be.

So yeah, NBA is the champion. My guess is the longer season gives NBA the advantage and that the NBA standings change every day, NFL changes every week so you have more people frequently checking in and looking at your site.
