ARIZONA WINS MAUI INVITATIONAL

Stanley Johnson had 18 points and nine rebounds as the #3 Arizona Wildcats defeated the #15 San Diego State Aztecs 61-59 to win the Maui Invitational championship game. Arizona defeated San Diego State in the Sweet Sixteen last year. Johnson played the best game of his young career on one of the biggest stages of the year, the premiere preseason tournament, the Maui Invitational. “We have a lot of guys who don’t like losing here, and I’m the same way,” said Johnson. After beating Kansas State in the semis Zona edged out the Aztecs to win the title. “We leave here feeling very good about what we accomplished,” Arizona coach Sean Miller said. “We have a long way to go, but I feel like our team took the next step, grew up, improved, and that’s what happens when you challenge yourself against this type of competition.”
