COLLEGE FOOTBALL PICKS WEEK 8

Welcome back College Football, I missed you. I am so excited for this season to start. Last year I took on Phil Steele’s College Football Picks challenge, and defeated arguably the greatest mind of College Football Analysts with a 116-34 record compared to Steele’s 111-39. This year I will take on the challenge again. Last week I called some upsets and went 2-2 on the up breaking even, holding a 3 game deficit.

Me:                 55-15 (79%)

Phil Steele: 58-12 (83%)

No. 6 Clemson Tigers at Miami (FL) Hurricanes

Noon ET, ABC

Before the season started, what did I tell you? My Top four was Ohio State, TCU, Alabama… and Clemson. The Tigers have gotten better and better every week. Deshaun Watson threw for over 400 yards against a highly underrated Boston College defense. Miami QB Brad Kaaya (who is highly underrated) will keep it close for awhile, but in the end Clemson will pull away by double digits.

The Pick: Clesmon

No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes  at Rutgers Scarlet Knights

8:00 p.m. ET ABC

To be honest, Ohio State isn’t getting as much credit as deserved. Most analysts have the Buckeyes outside of the top four but the Buckeyes aren’t playing that poorly. The average result of an Ohio State game is a 21 points win for the Buckeyes. Are they the best team in the nation? Probably not, but they are damn sure good enough to beat 3-3 Rutgers.

The Pick: Ohio State

Tennessee Volunteers at No. 8 Alabama Crimson Tide

3:30 p.m. ET, CBS

The past three weeks  the Alabama Crimson Tide have looked like one of the best teams in College Football. Tennessee is coming off a bye week, but you need A LOT more than that to beat the Crimson Tide at home. Derrick Henry  and company will expose a week Tennessee run defense, and the Tide will roll, waiting for the big matchup vs LSU.

The Pick: Alabama

No. 9 Florida State Seminoles atGeorgia Tech Yellow Jackets

7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN2

Sure, Georgia Tech has faced a tough schedule, but it’s hard to deny the Yellow Jackets haven’t been one of the biggest letdowns this year. Georgia Tech, (a preaseason Top 15 team) is 2-5, with the only wins being against Tulane and Alcorn State. Florida State, in classic FSU fashion, has been quietly sneaking out wins, 8 points over Wake Forest, 5 points over Miami, this Seminole team might not be as good as last year, but I still have them winning.

The Pick: Florida State

No. 25 Pittsburgh Panthers at Syracuse Orange

Noon ET, ESPNU

Pittsburgh is a very, very good team. The Panthers only loss on the year is a 3 point, road loss to unbeaten Iowa. This week they travel to New York to take on Syracuse, the Orange are coming off of a 44-38 Triple Overtime loss to Virginia. Syracuse is very good at home, but do I see an upset here? The answer is no. Pittsburgh moves pn to face UNC for the ACC Coastal lead.

The Pick: Pittsburgh

Iowa State Cyclones at No. 2 Baylor Bears

Noon ET, ESPN

I have said it before, and I will say it again. Baylor is the number one team in the country right now. The Baylor Bears beat Texas Tech by four Touchdowns, Texas Tech beat the Iowa State Cyclones by not one, not two, not three, not four but five touchdowns earlier this year. Folks, this one could get very, very, very ugly. Baylor stays unbeaten.

The Pick: Baylor

Indiana Hoosiers at No. 7 Michigan State Spartans

3:30 p.m. ET, ABC/ESPN2

Michigan State, I hate you. Last week I picked the Wolverines to beat the #7 Spartans at home and they were about to, until a miracle play cost them the win. Indiana will play with a passion just one week after blowing a 52-27 lead on Rutgers. I really, really, really want to pick the Upset, but I have to stick to my gut.

The Pick: Michigan State

No. 23 Duke Blue Devils at Virginia Tech Hokies

3:30 p.m. ET, ESPNU

3-4 Virginia Tech is actually a favorite over ranked Duke here. Virginia Tech is a lot better than  people give them credit for, but so are the Duke Blue Devils. I’m picking the upset, if you can even really call it that. Dual threat Thomas Sirk, who has thrown for 1,260 Yards and seven TD’s along with 325 yards and two scores on the ground will be a big part of that.

The Pick: Duke

No 15. Texas A&M Aggies at No. 24 Ole Miss Rebels

7:00 p.m. ET, ESPN

I went back and forth on this game for a long, long while. Both teams  come off of a loss, Texas A&M to Alabama and Ole Miss to Memphis. Chad Kelly has looked incredible this year for Ole Miss, throwing for 2,234 yards and 16 Touchdowns. At the end of the day it was 50/50, but when in doubt, stick with the home team, and that is the Ole Miss Rebels.

The Pick: Ole Miss

No. 3 Utah Utes at USC Trojans

7:30 p.m. ET, FOX

The Number 3 team in the nation undefeated, is a 3.5 points underdog to a team that has 3 wins. Why Vegas is favoring the Trojans of USC I honestly don’t know. What I do know however, is that the pressure will be mounting on Utah each and every week. that #3 spot puts a large target on your back. While I do think USC keep it close, in the end the Utes improve to 7-0.

The Pick: Utah
