CSD Mag Teaser: Is it finally Georgia’s year?

If you don’t know what the CSD Mag is, check out this link –> crazysportsdude.com/announcement

Kirby Smart’s first year at Georgia was a let down to most fans. You’re in a good place if an 8-5 season is a let down, but former head coach Mark Richt went 10-3 the year prior, and he got fired. Georgia fans were left questioning if they had made the right decision to fire Richt, and if Smart has another down year, he might be headed out of Athens in the next couple of years.

Georgia returns the third most starters of any team in the country with 17, and the Bulldogs are tied with Kentucky for the most returning starters in the SEC. The quarterback will probably be Jacob Eason. Eason started twelve games last year, throwing for 2,430 yards with a 2-1 TD-INT ratio. He might get a challenge from incoming five star recruit Jake Fromm, but I would be surprised if Eason isn’t the starter in week one. Who Eason will throw to is the bigger question. After Isaiah McKenzie declared for the draft, the dawgs top returning receiver is Terry Godwin, who reeled in just under 400 yards last season.

Georgia’s offensive line is a question mark, but they sure do have backs. The Dawgs return their two headed monster at running back as Nick Chubb and Sony Michel returned for another year in Athens. The two backs combined for 12 touchdowns and  totaled just under 2,000 yards. Needless to say, Georgia has it covered at tailback. This team’s biggest strength however, is the defense. Defense is Kirby Smart’s specialty, and he returns 10/11 starters from defense that finished 16th in the country last year. Even in the talented SEC, I would be shocked if the Dawgs don’t crack the top 15 this year.

With another year of experience under Jacob Eason’s belt, a two headed monster at tailback, and a defense that will be one of the best in the country, a double-digit win season is a likelihood in Smart’s second season at the helm, and three months out, I would even call Georgia the favorite in the SEC East.
