RECAPPING ALL 16 ROUND OF 64 FRIDAY GAMES: FT. DUKE-MERCER

BTW: I was in Raleigh.

RALEIGH, NC REGION

14 Mercer vs 3 Duke (go to diddukewin.com now)

Let’s start, 2nd half, and Jabari Parker gets the and-1! But the Bears wouldn’t go away! Anthony White Jr. ties it at 63 for Mercer! Then Daniel Coursey lays it in off the glass for the bears and MERCER PULLS THE UPSET! 78-71!

16 Coastal Carolina vs 1 Virginia

At one point the Chanticleers (By the way a Chanticleer is, and I quote “a rooster esp. in fairy tales” I’m not kidding, look it up yourself.) lead by 10 over the #1 seeded Cavs. but the Chant’s down 3 right now and Evan Nolte’s going to add on to that with a 3 from the corner! Then Harris off the screen… YES! UVa escapes after a shaky start 70-59.

9 George Washington vs 8 Memphis

2 minutes to play and Memphis’ Michael Dixon Jr. knocks down the 3. Tigers go on to win by 5.

11 Tennessee vs 6 Massachusetts

The Volunteers controlled this one from start to finish and cruise to a 19 point upset win.

SAN DIEGO, CA REGION

12 Stephen F. Austin vs 5 VCU

Time ticking down, VCU up 4 and F. Austin’s Desmond Heymon gets the 3-pointer to go and the refs call a foul on what to me looked like an obvious flop, SFA makes the freebe and we’re going to overtime! Then VCU up 2 in OT but SFA’s Heymon, three on the way….GOOD! Less than 5 seconds to play, SFA up 2 but VCU, shot from the corner to win…..NO! Austin pulls the upset.

13 Tulsa vs 4 UCLA

2nd half, UCLA already up 12 and they add on to that with a flying dunk! The Bruins go on to win by 17

16 Weber State vs 1 Arizona

It was a lot tougher than you would expect but the wildcats got it done. 68-59 ZONA WINS!

9 Oklahoma State vs 8 Gonzaga

61 fouls were called but Gonzaga beat the Pokes by 8.

SAN ANTONIO, TX REGION

11 Providence vs 6 North Carolina

Just over a minute to play, Heels down 3 but Marcus Paige drains the 3 for UN and we are tied! 3.5 seconds to play, UNC’S James Michael McAdoo gets a rebound off of a teammate’s missed shot and goes up…AND THEY CALL A FOUL ON PROVIDENCE! So McAdoo going to the line, shooting two. He makes them and Carolina wins 79-77.

14 NC Central vs 3 Iowa State

This was a blowout! Main moment of the game: Georges Niang, arguably ISU’s best player drains a 3 and then calls for a sub, it was later revealed that earlier in the game Niang broke his foot, Niang will out for the rest of the tourney, ISU wins 93-75.

14 La-Lafayette vs 3 Creighton

Let’s start, Creighton up 3 and Dougie McBuckets (Doug McDermott) drains a 3 for the Bluejays, than Jays up 7 and McDermott lays it in off the glass! Creighton wins by a score of 76-66.

11 Nebraska vs 6 Baylor

Nebraska played pretty poorly in a 74-60 loss to Baylor where Husker’s coach Tim Miles was ejected.

SAINT LOUIS, MO REGION

15 Eastern Kentucky vs 2 Kansas

In a game that was tied at halftime Kansas stepped up in the 2nd half, picking up a 11 point W.

16 Cal Poly vs 1 Wichita State

15 minutes in and Wichita’s VanVleet to Cleanthony Early for the alley-oop jam! The Shockers cruised 64-37. This is Cal Poly’s 20th loss on the year, Wichita still has 0.

9 Kansas State vs 8 Kentucky

2nd half,  Kentucky already up 8 and Julius Randle with the layin +1, the Wildcats of Kentucky went on to win 56-49.

10 Stanford vs 7 New Mexico

Stanford escaped 58-53 after blowing a 16 point lead.
