Virginia Sports Update
ROWING
The Varsity Eight team finished 1st and the Varisty 4 team finished 2nd in their respective semifinals to advance to the grand finals. UVa’s Second Varsity Eight was .26 seconds away from advancing to the finals but it just wasn’t meant to be. The Varsity Eight finished with a time of 7:00.61, which beat out USC (7:05.99), California (7:09.36), UCLA, Brown and Stanford. In the 2V8 semis Brown won the race with a time of 6:54.56, beating out, California (6:55.09), Princeton d (6:55.26), Virginia (6:55.52), UCLA and Notre Dame. In Varsity 4 UVa rowed a good race and advanced to the grand final with a second-place finish (7:50.08). USC was first (7:44.82) behind UVa and USC were, Washington State (7:52.48) ,Princeton (7:52.69), Notre Dame and Michigan.
BASEBALL
Elon (33-29) plays UNC Wilmington (38-22) in an elimination game today at 1 p.m. Virginia (49-10)is 2-0 in the regional and will play the winner of Elon-UNCW tonight at 6 p.m. in an elimination game for UNCW/Elon but not for the cavs. If Virginia does not beat Elon/UNCW there will be a game that is elimination game for both teams Monday at 6pm. Scott Sylverstien picked up the win for the cavs against Elon. The Cavaliers won 2-0. Sylerstien pitched 6 innings and it is his 10th win of the year. Josh Sborz pitched 1 inning and as usual Crockett came in for the 6-out save. Medick pitched a complete game for Elon and he takes the loss. UVa scored their runs when Kenny Towns hit an RBI double and Nate Irving hit an RBI Single.
