NFL RECAP WEEK 9
Saints at Panthers
Drew Brees threw for nearly 300 yards and a touchdown and Mark Ingram ran for another 100 yards and two scores as the Saints beat the Panthers 28-10 in the Superdome on Thursday Night Football. “The offensive line and tight end did a great job of hitting them, hitting them and hitting them,” Ingram said. “I think they started to wear down and we were able to get some leaky yards and some big gains.” The Panthers, defending NFC South champs are in trouble as of late with a record of 3 wins, 5 losses, and 1 tie. “We know we are better — simple as that,” Panthers quarterback Cam Newton said. “It’s nothing that someone has to say that hasn’t already been said. It’s a lot that hasn’t been done yet.”
Cardinals at Cowboys
Tony Romo sat out as Carson Palmer threw for 250 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Cardinals improved to 7-1 and with a 28-17 win are the best team in the NFC for the first time since 1974. “This is a very good team,” said Palmer “We feel like we can play with anybody, and that’s important because we feel like we are improving.” Tony Romo will dress for next Sundays London game vs the Jaguars. “We’re optimistic,” Garrett said. “People with similar injuries have been on a little bit of a similar timetable where they missed the first game and they were getting close to being able to play in that second game.”
Eagles at Texans
Mark Sanchez came in and threw for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns coming in for the injured Nick Foles as the Eagles beat the Houston Texans 31-21. “He’s good,” running back LeSean McCoy said. “Even when he came here it’s hard to look at him as a backup because of (the) success he’s had and experience. I think today wasn’t really something surprising to the team. I think we’ll do some damage if Nick can’t go, he’ll step in there and do a great job.” On his first throw he hit Jeremy Maclin with a 52 yard strike. “You want to get the first throw out of the way. And thanks to Chip we throw it right down the field,” Sanchez said. “So that will get your nerves gone.”
Broncos at Patriots
Tom Brady threw for 333 yards and 4 touchdowns as the Patriots overcame the Broncos 43-21. “He has always set a real high bar for how to play and I have tried to do the same through my efforts with my team,” said Brady, who owns three Super Bowl rings to one for Manning. “The only thing I really care about is the respect from my team, going out there and trying to earn it. ” “Well, I don’t usually stink, but I stunk today,” said Manning, who threw for 438 yards but gave away the ball twice. “I don’t make any excuses. ” Julian Edelman also caught a touchdown and returned a punt for a score. “Minitron can do so many things, he’s so quick,” Brady said of Edelman. “What he did on the punt return was incredible.”
Colts at Giants
Following an awful performance in Pittsburgh last week Andrew Luck threw for 354 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 40-24 victory for the Colts over the New York Giants. “It was great to get back in the win column after a tough one last week,” Luck said. New York never could get their running game going in the Monday Night Special. The colts now avoid going into their bye week with a loss. “Reggie spoke to it last night,” Luck said. “He’s had only one or two, but he said losses before bye weeks stink.”
“We got that bad taste out of our mouths, the way we lost that last game,” coach Chuck Pagano said. “It’s awesome.”
