THE CSD COLLEGE BASKETBALL TOP 25 – WEEK 12

Rank  Team Notes
 1 Villanova (19-1) No Change

The Wildcats keep winning, but with a game against Virginia this week, can they hold on to #1?

 2 Kentucky (17-2) Up 2

After a blowout win against South Carolina, I had to move Calipari’s squad up to #2

 3 Kansas (18-1) Down 1

No fault of their own, Kentucky was just so impressive this week.

 4 Gonzaga (19-0) Up 1

The only undefeated team remaining moves onto the one line.

 5 Baylor (18-1) Up 2

Arguably the best resume in basketball, and that earns them a top-5 ranking.

 6  Florida State (18-2) Up 5

The biggest surprise of the year gets another huge win.

7 North Carolina (18-3) No Change

The Tar Heels have an easy couple of weeks leading up to Duke on February the 9th.

 8 Arizona (18-2) Up 9

A blowout road win over UCLA might be the best win of any team this year.

 9 UCLA (19-2)  Down 6

Tough loss for the Bruins, but with only two losses, they stay in the Top 10.

 10 Virginia (15-3) Up 2

The Cavs are climbing, but with road tests against Notre Dame (#15) and Villanova (#1) they might not stay top 10 for long.

 11 Louisville (16-4)  Down 1

All of the Cardinals losses are to good teams, but the number of those losses keeps them outside of the top 10.

 12 Butler (17-3) Up 4

Only team to beat ‘Nova, enough said.

 13 Wisconsin (16-3) Up 1

The highest ranked Big Ten team comes in at #13

 14 Oregon (18-2) Up 1

The Ducks keep slowly climbing up the rankings

 15 Notre Dame (17-3) Up 3

With a home game against Virginia, the Irish have a chance to make some serious impact.

 16 Duke (15-4) Down 3

Needing to come from behind at home against Miami? Down again for the Blue Devils.

 17 West Virginia (15-4) Down 11

Still ranked top 5 in Kenpom and Sagarin, but with back to back losses, the Mountaineers need to rebound.

 18 Purdue (16-4) Up 3

Purdue has an easy schedule ahead of them, so a top 15 finish isn’t out of the question.

 19  Cincinnati (17-2) Up 1

Ten straight victories for the Bearcats.

 20 Creighton (18-2) Down 11

The injury hurts, it might be a challenge for the Bluejays to climb back into the Top 10.

 21 Florida (14-5) Down 2

The Gators are probably a little overrated here, but 5/6 teams between #20-#25 lost this week, so they stay in.

 22 Saint Mary’s (17-2) Up 1

The Gaels are the one team between 20-25 that didn’t lose this week, as they prepare for round 2 with Gonzaga.

 23  Iowa State (12-6) Up 1

Iowa State has had close losses to great teams (2 to Gonzaga, 1 to Cincy, 2 to Baylor, 4 to Kansas) but they’ll need to win one to move past here.

 24 South Carolina (15-4) Up 1

It might be overshadowed by thee blowout loss to Kentucky, but the Gamecocks beat Florida, so that’s an up.

 25 Xavier (14-5) Down 3

The Musketeers finally got a win over Georgetown after losing three straight, and that keeps them in the top 25 for now.

Next Up: #26 Maryland (Up 1), #27 Kansas State (New), #28 Wichita State (No Change)
