THE CSD COLLEGE BASKETBALL TOP 25 – WEEK 13 – AFTER A CRAZY WEEK, MAJOR SHAKEUPS IN TOP 25

Rank  Team Notes
 1 Gonzaga (22-0) Up 3

The only undefeated team in basketball, and they’ve beaten 5 Kenpom top-38 teams to do it.

 2 Baylor (20-1) Up 3

I’ve said it before, best resume in basketball, so many good wins.

 3  Villanova (20-2) Down 2

The Wildcats lost to Marquette, which moves them down, but a win over Virginia keeps them in the top-3

 4 Kansas (19-2) Down 1

The Jayhawks split two really tough road games this week.

 5 West Virginia (17-4) Up 12

A win over Kansas moves the Mountaineers all the way up into the top 5.

 6 Louisville (18-4) Up 5

Nothing special this week, but amid the chaos the Cards move up five spots.

 7 Arizona (20-2) Up 1

The Wildcats will probably cruise to a pac-12 title

 8 Virginia (16-4) Up 2

A road blowout win over Notre Dame, followed by taking then-#1 Villanova to the brink on the road means Tony Bennett’s squad keeps moving up, but 8/10 remaining games are vs teams ranked 53 or better in Kenpom.

 9 Wisconsin (18-3) Up 4

The Badgers are a big favorite to take home the Big Ten regular season championship

 10 Kentucky (17-4) Down 8

Two losses this week send the Cats spiraling down, but they’re still ranked #3 in Kenpom

 11 North Carolina (19-4)  Down 4

An upset loss to Miami send the Heels out of the Top 10.

 12 UCLA (19-3) Down 3

After two straight losses, the Bruins will be able to rest easy with games against #197 Washington State and #142 Washington upcoming

 13 Oregon (19-3) Up 1

Even though the Ducks lost to Colorado, they move up due to so many other teams losing.

 14 Butler (18-4) Down 2

A home loss to a Georgetown team that won’t make the tournament moves Butler down

 15 Cincinnati (19-2) Up 4

Cincinnati is climbing, the head-to-head loss to Butler is the only thing stopping them from moving past the Bulldogs.

 16 Duke (16-5) No Change

I feel bad for ranking Duke this high, but the Blue Devils have a chance to prove me right vs Notre Dame.

 17 South Carolina (17-4) Up 7

The Gamecocks are on a roll, winning 7 of their last 8.

 18 Purdue (17-5) No Change

The Nebraska loss is bad, but they will have a chance to get a big win vs Northwestern.

 19  Saint Mary’s (19-2) Up 3

The Gaels keep winning leading up to their rematch vs Gonzaga

 20 Florida State (18-4) Down 14

This might be an overreaction, but it seems as if State can’t win on the road. The ‘Noles are 0-3 away from home in the new year.

 21 Florida (16-5) No Change

Head-to-head loss to FSU keeps Florida out of the top 20.

 22 Maryland (19-2) NEW

The Terps have beaten no one that is ranked or even in the others considered category, but with Purdue on Saturday, they get a chance to prove themselves.

 23 Notre Dame (17-5) Down 8

With games against Duke and Carolina upcoming, it could spell four straight losses for the Fighting Irish.

 24 Xavier (15-6) Up 1

Cincinnati isn’t a bad loss, and because so many other teams lost worse games, the Musketeers actually move up a spot.

 25 SMU (18-4) NEW

I’m not crazy about this one, but the Mustangs have won 14 of their last 15, albeit against a weak schedule.

Others Considered: #26 Northwestern, #27 Creighton

Dropped Out From Last Week: #20 Creighton, #23 Iowa State
