NCAA ROWING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL TOP 5 1) OHIO STATE 2) CALIFORNIA 3) PRINCETON 4) USC 5) UVA. UVa’s Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 both finished 4th in the grand finals.

BASEBALL

Ryan Kinsella had hit 20 home runs on the year but his Elon Phoenix were facing elimination he took a breath and watched the pitch come in from UVa’s Scott Sylverstien, he swung and he knew it was gone. 2-0 Elon but could the Phoenix hold onto that lead facing Virginia? Elon thought they could. In the top of the 3rd Elon added another run on an RBI double by Casey Jones.Then came UVa’s side of the 3rd. The rain had started Jared King stepped into the batter’s box, Nate was on second so he could bring him home with a base hit he swung and felt a jolt in his arm the ball went straight down the left field line for an easy RBI double. It was 3-1 the cavs were rallying. The bases were loaded and Nick Fisher stepped up to the plate he was 0-24 in regionals all-time and he wanted that to stop. In his usual fashion he just ripped a 2 RBI single, no biggie the game was tied 3-3 and the crowd erupted. Nick Howard then came up and hit a 2-run single of his own. the cav’s took the lead. Kenny Towns also hit an RBI double so the cavs were up 6-3 after three and they never looked back. Brandon Downes hit an RBI double and Fisher hit an RBI single to put the cavs up 8-3. Nate Irving hit a sac fly in the 5th and Kenny Town’s hit an RBI ground out to make it 10-3 after 7. towns was hit by a pitch when the bases were loaded in the eighth to put the cavs up 11-3. Let’s go to the 9th. Josh Sborz heard the chant 2 outs, full count 9th inning with an strike/out here the cavs would advance to the super regionals for the 2nd time in 3 years. The crowd was at full blast: U-V-A, U-V-A, U-V-A, U-V-A, U-V-A he pitched the batter hit grounder to Jared King who was at first Josh knew what to do he ran to the bag and Jared flipped it to him and a new chant erupted OMAHA-YES WE CAN, OMAHA-YES WE CAN, OMAHA- YES WE CAN.Kyle Crockett Relief Pitcher from UVA won the regional MVP. Nate Irving got Best Catcher, Nick Howard got best SS, Kenny Towns got best 3B, Joe McCarthy got one of the three best OF, Scott Sylverstien received best Starting Pitcher, and Crockett picked up best relief pitcher. UVa will host the Super Regional and will play either Central Arkansas or Mississippi State in it.
